fantastic wood texture mate. I do believe that is a brilliant start for a log cabin. Also the tools are superbly done :D.

Welsh that tree trunk is just absolutley wonderful. I was just looking at some photos from 20 yrs ago about chopping down a Christmas tree. This would be excellent in an image like that. especially with the axe. wonderful.

ciao OMA

Much nice background for the wood log, I like tree bark texture but not the shape of the wood, especially the top :slap: , good you didn't show any cut on it indicating that been done with the axe, cause the axe is very new and never been used , very nice.

I love my adjustable spanner, the extra rusty one :) , but as I mentioned before, I still can't put it on the tool-board .

@ Lance', Chad, oma, Goon' and AfG ... thanks guys and Lady. Trying to recreate the bark isn't as easy as I thought
Again your comments and enthusiasm for my work flatters me

@ Sargon' ... :P
There's a reason there's no axe marks ... chainsaws are easier
We took part in a week long experiment once where we had to use horses and axes instead of tractors and chainsaws ... while it was interesting, it wasn't much fun and serious hard work :ouch:

The spanner/ wrench. You're a hard task master, but here you are

Image

... and if you say the hole isn't lined up properly, I'll hunt you down and do unspeakable things with a non-real spanner  :P

The new background for the stump & axe is just superb. Rich warm colours showing great texture of real wood.

Axes are great for splitting firewood but chopping down trees with one is as you said: seriously hard yakka. Long live chainsaws, I say.

My mother, builder generation, instilled in her kids that waste was sinful. I have scored many a rusty tool from garage sales & lovingly restored them & they work a damn sight better than the new rubbishy ones. They still show the pock marks & rust shows thru but I think that is the beauty of them. Tools are to be used not just for show.

Sargon, nothing pleases me more than to walk into a workshop to see tools arranged on a board.

Welshy, I love the rusty one & the one with the hole for hanging. I kept thinking that something was was missing - it was the hole.

+++I agree+++up Welshy's rank, please!+++

@ Barbie' ... thanks.
I'm not sure about long, live the chainsaw ... parts of me wish I'd never seen a tree, and joined the police force like I planned all those many years ago
Waste is sinful ... is why I recycle a lot of old images into new works :P
Being serious tho', older tools were made betterly. Like yourself I've built up a tool collection over the years that is half 2nd hand. A trip to a mate's place to use his shot=blasting cabinet, a soak in diesel, then a wipe with engine oil makes them like new. Apart from the pock marks, which give them character :)

@ Lance' and Barbie' ... thanks for the Up Ranking shout; but to be honest I don't feel I'm that good to have a fast-track PDN career - I'd rather work my way up through the ranks.

Talking of which ... is it just me who can't see my avatar ? :? :|

This next piece somehow evolved from the log texture from up there ^
Just random doodling really and it got so far I wanted to finish it. No Tree Gen used, just lots of layers and distorts including SineWaves, Wobble and Wave for the tree. Mostly them  ... And P.I. for the bottom left branch and twigs

I'm not whether to call it Days End or End of Days :|

ps. The foreground is a marraige of pdn renders with my 1st Terragen one

ppp+s. after looking @ this again a while later, I can see how my thoughts to make a crocodile have shown up in this. Is that good thing ?

It is only your Avatar that`s not showing Welsh. All the others seem to be fine.
Nice image for Dark WOTW.

So you`ve downloaded Terregen? Is it easy to use? I was on their website this evening thinking of downloading it. :D

I love End of Days (the title too). Very eerie. Odd how we seem to have mostly gravitated to dark eerie themes. Blame it on WOTW!

I really like your entry too. The colour & the flow are gorgeous. Nice metallic or glassy sheen to some of the bits.

What is "Terregen"? Also the height field to something plugin - I ain't go it & can't find a working link   Can anyone help? Should this be a new thread?

As far as upping your rank - working your way through - I feel you've done that with your work, otherwise I wouldn't have made the recommendation. What I am trying to say is that your work IS the recommendation.

Anyway, Welshy, another great couple of works.

I love the trees, the ground, the moon, the background, the everything. :!: :!: For darn's sake, it's just wicked good! Wow!!!   :o :o :o :o :o

Good job with your first Terragen render and combining it with PDN. It has a very apocalyptic feel to it. End of Days sounds right to me.

The WOTW entry looks great. Can't really think of anything constructive to say, so I'll just sit back and enjoy your work.

Very nice Days End or End of Days, I like the trees and their texture and the terragen part is nice as well, good combination with PDN, I can see you castle for behind and there a light showing through a window, good there is still a hope there.

I don't know if you got the answer..?

There is two plugins do same effect in PDN:
-Height Field to Normal Map (Effect > Height Field to Normal Map)
-Normal Map (Effect > Color > Normal Map)

I was hoping to provide the their links but the official forum is down right now :|

EDIT: the links:
Normal Map
Height field to normal map (I can't find the thread, anybody knows)?

@ everyone for the End of Days ... thanks a lot :)
I'm really pleased that the eerie feel I was going for, came through.
The tree was good practice for later projects, I'm especially pleased with the smaller branches/ twigs.

@ Lance' ... thanks mate. There couldn't be a bigger/ better compliment
I hope you few who support me here and there, realise how much of a buzz I get if some of my work is enjoyed

@ Barbie' ... there's been a lot of weird coincidences in the past, Helen and Oma on same wavelength, and Sargon ... our eerie ones ... Goon' looking @ Terragen while I'm d/l'ing it ... Chad, Goon' and myself putting planets in works - your moon. The list is endless. Long live the fanatics :)
Plus, what you said about my work doing the working through ... thanks

@ Sargon' ... you always see the lil' subtle things I put in for myself. The burning light in this one. and I was going to call it Hope with some of the ends of the branches sprouting green growth ... but I was too lazy and impatient to post it

@ Everyone again ... not a normal reply to everyone I know, but anyone who really knows me, also knows Me & Normal don't really go together :P
But hopefully my thanks and appreciation to you all here on Fans,( plus those rare few who are non-fanatics but still post maybe now and again in my other gallery) do show through

Plus replying to everyone individually would take ages because I like to talk ... and I'm still limiting my hours of internet access

Enough of my nonsense.
2 images that came from this By a bit of messing around an idea formed in my head. My Media Player is born ...

Image

This is the messing around that put the idea in my head Click

ps. sorry if the files are a bit big for connections but I was trying to retain a decent quality by saving as a .gif

Ps. the player looks better on a white background

PPS. ... a slightly more manic player click
