That most definitely does look like wood to me. Superb! I like the plank of wood best. These are all so realistic but the plank and the texture used to make it especially so . Amazing work Sargon. I think Welshy has got some serious competition here. Will that bring his prices down I wonder?

Most assuredly, it looks like wood! Very nice wood too. I like the colours of the first & last one. Nice warm colours.
With the first & last one I can see some very faint grid patterns. I've noticed the same in my work too. I'm not sure what it's from, maybe you know? I think I mostly see if after I have bevelled?
I'll buy the last one from you - I need a chopping board & wood is my favourite, esp the colours in that one.
Very well done!
Knowledge is no burden to carry.

Wonderful stuff Sargon, the plank of wood even shows signs of having been planned by machine as opposed to by hand... now i have two quality suppliers of wood ....you and Welsh

@ Goonfella, he got a different wood, the clean face polished one, thanks and glad it looks like wood to you, cause the thumbnails don't show that. @ barbieq25, it is free for regular PDN fan members, thanks, glad you like it, and actually I did add that grid to the wood to give it a saw texture effect, it been done by Emboss, Emboss and Engrave, Normal Map, Relief or Height Field to Normal Map, all these plugins do that effect, then set the blend mode to Multiply or any other as it needs. @ A Fleeting Glimpse, yep, it is been planned by machine, well welshwoody, nobody could beat it. @ Oma, thank you very much, I think everyone like that plank of wood. Well it is so easy to make this texture, 80% of the work could be done with Dents plugin ( I think Dents now is included in version 3.5 of PDN), then some additional effects to give it some more wood texture effect, 3 or 4 layers no more. And there is also 2 side cut edges, one along the wood grains and other across the grains, I will prepare some samples of what I am talking about soon.

I`ve had a go at this using just dents and point warp and your right , it`s surprisingly easy and gives good results. To make it into a plank I just used S3D. I think choosing the right colours is important though if you want realistic wood. Nice little mini tut Sargon.

Excellent wood mate ... I'm going to try the 2 techniques together later, and play with blend modes, something tells me they could work pretty well together. The beauty of wood is there isn't really a set pattern, you've only got to go around a timber mill to see the different cuts they make in processing the timber gives different grain types from one saw-log let alone different tree types. As Goon' says, colour is all important but strangely B & W can work well too I'm finding a truly realistic tree bark harder to find ... and that's after having the experience of felling over 500,000 of the things. One so close up and personal I thought I was dead as it hit me ... then when I woke up, the pain almost made me wish I was But I got a free helicopter ride out of it Truly is great wood mate, but please keep your imports away from the UK ... timber prices are low enough already
