You know how a student can't be higher than his or her teacher by experience? Well, the same thing here. No one will make better wood textures than you as you were the first one to experiment it and then polished it with experience. I'm loving the wood texture!

Amazing result mate, I like how the wood grain blended well and the varnished face, put it in the tutorials section, to post our attempts, I have a different technique but it gives me a rough raw wooden texture, not clean like your technique.

@ Helen ... me a teacher ?   God help the youth if I was one. :?
Thanks though. I've always known I'm not the best artist so I've worked hard on nature's textures; basically what I know best to try and make my images more believable. And so far, my Collab' with AFG is the best I've done ... drum roll for November the 8th
(:slap: Sorry AFG, but it's so good ... )
@ Sargon' ... thanks mate, but all the credit has to go to drakaan for the texture, I've just spent 18months trying to find the best way
The rough wood texture sounds interesting, maybe we should start a Fans Texture thread ? Does anyone else think it's worthy of a tut ?
@ Chad ... thanks mate, I hope it comes in handy for you. I forgot to say, Soften Portrait and Glow in the Effects>>> Photo menu do lots if interesting things to the depth/ type of wood.

BTW ... thanks for the trees :P

Having a dodgy internet connection for over a week has helped chuck me into a bit more PDN, quick ideas from existing files mainly, I hope you's enjoy :)

Good grief! I can see you had been a busy boy lately. Wow, wow, and wow! Siren's Call has got to be one of your best abstract piece to date. Sunrise #2 is not bad, just a small jaggies on the bottom of the sphere, but Siren's Call is just... Nuff said. Lava lamp is pretty good.

I think it's a great idea to have a texture thread on this board for wood. Maybe I could try and whip one up...who knows?

Welshy you have excelled once again! Sirens Call is one of the best abstracts on the forum. I think only Oma has bettered it (I`m sure you`ll agree as well)
I love your animations but Bates Motel has got to be the best. Very funny!

Excellent work on the animations mate, how could you post a file larger that 1000 kb(1mb) to photobucket?
The apng gives excellent quality, but they don't work with me on Photobucket most of the time, can you try and tell me. But animated PNG doesn't work on most applications, just on Firefox and may be on chrome haven't tried yet.
For the lamp you need more frames.
And the Bates is 12 frames(wow) why? Should be just 2.
There is a Layer saver from PDN file, I don't know if you have it, it is not a plugin, but it generates full quality layers from PDN files in all formats.
I love all the animations.
I see you modified the sunrise, this version remind me of Indians in California, looks awesome.
And the sirens is very nice.
The finished lava lamp is awesome, like the on/off switch :) .

Sirens Call is the first time you have posted a work that i would not be able to pick out as yours and i mean that in a good way and as a compliment (you get to know an artist style) love the blend of colours and the inclusion of the music notes, Bates Motel conjured up all sorts of images  and knowing your sense of humour that's exactly what it was meant to do   Alfred would be proud

@ Helen ... thank you.
It's only recently I've started to get colours right  The variations ? Sometimes a change is as good as a rest.

@ Lance' ... thanks a lot mate. Siren's Call was one of the most bestest things to make too. The colours make it for me.
I'm glad you like it mate.
Sunrise #2 ? The jaggies in that do not compare to the jaggies in #1

@ G.F. ... firstl, I'm glad you beat the scousers last night
Thanks mate. I'd concede defeat to Oma's abstracts anytime. 5 minutes of looking and wondering how on the pc; is a lot better than watching an hour of TV and wondering why I sat through it
Oma was my inspiration behind Siren's Call (not that she is one ... in a bad sense ... hole. Stop digging. Now !!) , and it's mostly Polar Inversion.
I'm glad you enjoyed Bate's Motel ... there's a few Price's I'd like to slash. But I'm too nice. Too clever :P

@ Sargon' ... thanks mate. The on/ off swith on the lava lamp ... I thought of you, and how you would add one. :!:
Glad you like the idea.
The photobucket files? :?
There isn't an Apng there. 2 gifs made with Unfreez and 1 made with LunaPic, an online gif animator. ImageShack host Apng's though. If that's any help.
I think it's only I.E. that doesn't support the format, I know Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and I think Google Chrome did ... but I'm not using it as a browser so I wouldn't know :)
Yep, the lamp needs more frames, I was too lazy to make all the layers to go with them ... the Motel was 12 frames bringing Yorricks face into it ... hmmmm maybe nobody noticed that. Maybe my work is too subtle @ times

@ AFG' ... I will definitely take that as a compliment, thanks mate.
I also know what you mean about each person's own style. It's all great to learn with. From :)
The Bates ... my humour has almost gotten me into as much trouble as my mouth :ouch:

@ 'Chad ... thanks mate. As I said above (and in PM on the other board) UnFreez. There's also Benetton gif maker. Maybe Sargon' has got some suggestions, his gifs are always top-notch.

I enjoyed seeing our kids out playing multi million pound players. Cracking goals all round ( even theirs ) :D

Excellent new addition to your growing tool collection. I like the textured handle . Maybe it could be a bit shinier but that`s only being really picky. Got to keep your ego in check havn`t we?

Not sure what to make of Artists Pallette. Hang on yes I can see now. All those watercolours mixed together ready to paint another masterpiece. Probably another tool!

Nope. I am NOT going to accept the fact that the spanner was created in PDN. How...how is that possible?!!! :o :o  Amazing and incredible! And the palette reminds me of my own palette when I paint; it looks almost exactly like that! Wow! Fantastic work!

Thanks to poor ISP service, I've missed out on seeing this until now. I was sure I commented but looks like it got lost.

The works I am seeing here are outstanding! Bloomin' marvelous! Welshy what else can I say but echo the sentiments expressed above?
I marvel at your skill & imagination.

Texture thread & tute wood  be good. I haven't attempted wood yet.

If I need an adjustable wrench (UNF) I know where to go :D Goonie, tools are only shiny when they're new  Welshy, put a bit of grease on it

All jokes aside, Welshy your work is fantastic!
