I have a general comment...
wow
That's some pretty impressive stuff. Only person I've ever seen make anything that nice-looking with Paint.NET is Ash , and that's saying something!
I'm especially interested in the gears, dart board, and ship-in-a-bottle, but they're all great, and I can see you have some tried-and true techniques for some of the textures and lighting effects...I look forward to you winning a contest and doing a tutorial!

Even though I regularly see your work on the official PDN Forum I still can`t fail to be impressed . Your work is excellent no matter where you look at it!

Thanks Goon' ... nice of you to say so mate, and I enjoy your work too; after all ... you were the inspiration behind the phone up there ^
Thanks Sidneys' ... I think it's about time I wrote a tut' so if Ash doesn't mind me linking to this 3D chrome I couldn't do it without these steps ... then yeh I'll write a tut' for it
Thanks drakaan ... your kind words flatter me, maybe one day you can mention us both in the same breath
I must admit without Ash's tuts' I wouldn't have achieved so much. Not brown nosing - fact
I'll try and write a few tuts' and become a useful participant here.
Off to have a proper look around ...

Very cool. I noted that you reused your pigeon from your UFO invasion picture. That's a good way of "recycling" art without the redundancy of recreating from scratch. Very good job.
Only thing I would work on some more is the shotgun. The stock is floating free from the barrel. There's no trigger, and I'm wondering if it's a WIP?

Impressive! Your work shows excellent technical skill, as well as a good grasp of the fundamentals of light and shading. Some areas I think you could improve on are composition and color usage, your images tend to be discontinuous, the individual elements don't mesh well with each other. I think particularly a more unified color scheme might help with that. Take a look at this tutorial it's a pretty good introduction to color theory.
I hope my critique does not fool you, I think you have a lot of talent, and I'm looking forward to your next image!

@ draakan ... thanks ... and that cartridge is perfect . Sweet job on that. Good thing I've still got mine as a pdn file to work on
@ Lance' ... thanks ... and there was me thinking nobody would notice the shotgun Yep it's all very much a WIP, a lot of blending etc to do yet ... and finish the shotgun now
@ Ben R_R ... thanks, and thanks for the critique. Now I know why my wife won't go out with me when I'm wearing my orange trousers, pink shirt and yellow tie
Before finding PDN, the last 'art' of any sort I've attempted was when I was in school <cough> 27 years ago <cough> And then my teacher was either chucking things at me or telling me the only thing I'd ever draw is a pair of curtains !! I know I've got a tendency to put a lil' bit too much into some pieces ... just how my mind works. Weirdly
Thanks, I'll check out that tut'

I wasn't sure whether to edit my last post or if there's like an Image Hospital here ... sorry if it seems I'm bumping my own thread
I'm struggling with this:
If anyone has any suggestions how I can improve it I'd be most grateful. Getting very close to scrapping it and starting again

I don't know the names of this shotgun, but right underneath the gray part, make it a little darker. That way, the metallic part of the gun will stand out more from the wooden part. Do the same thing with the tiny metal part next to the handle to the right. For the bolts/screws (whatever you call them), what you need to do is add a Drop Shadow so they would look nested into the shotgun.
I think you got the shadows nailed down pretty well already.
I also think that it looks really cool anyhow. It has a nice texture and colors are realistic. Nice job!!!!

Thanks Helen ... I think I'm going to close the file for a few days and approach it with a fresh mind. I had a eureka moment last night of something else I want to do ... which if I get it right, could be quite (A big IF )
